The Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG) is another need-based financial aid that you could be eligible for. This grant is provided directly by the schools with money they receive from the government.

Just like the Pell Grant, qualifying for the SEOG is simple. You just have to show that you need help paying for college and that you are an undergraduate.

Learn How to Get up to $4,000 With the Federal SEOG Grant

The SEOG grant amount you receive could be anywhere from $100 to $4,000 per year, depending on a few factors.

The best part? This higher education grant gives priority to students who are eligible for the Pell Grant. So you can potentially get both education grants at the same time and receive $10,000+ per year from the government.

However, if you’re eligible, you need to act FAST to receive benefits. Grant money is LIMITED.

After you are accepted to get the FSEOG award, your school sends you a notification letter confirming that you will receive the FSEOG financial aid. The funds are required to be disbursed once per term (every semester, quadrimester, trimester, or however your school’s schedule is broken up), or if not, at least twice per year.

Note: you might receive several letters from different schools and different amounts for the same award on each. If your school of choice has a lower amount, you should consider requesting an increase. Since the Financial Aid Offices standards and requirements for this award are flexible normally, your school might be able to give you the award increase.

Additionally, when you apply for the award the following year, since the award is not necessarily required to be the same as the previous year, you might find out that the amount is lower. You can also appeal through your financial aid office in this case so that they can help you.

As mentioned before, it is very important to act fast in these cases because these awards funds are limited. Work with your administrator and make sure to follow up to make sure you get an answer on time.
